Norton, Kansas, October 2021 – Norton County Community Foundation has announced the creation of the James and Barbara Johnson Family Fund. This is a field of interest fund intended to support charitable causes serving the city of Almena and its surrounding area, and the citizens in that area. This is the first fund held at NCCF dedicated exclusively to Almena.
James and Barbara Johnson were each born and raised in the Almena area, and currently reside in Aurora, Nebraska. Jim served on the Hamilton (Nebraska) Community Foundation Board of Directors, giving him a unique understanding of the value provided by community foundations. Similarly, Barb is active with the Hamilton County Food Pantry, allowing her insight to the funding needs of nonprofits. Through this fund, Jim and Barb hope to support their hometown and the charitable efforts taking place.
“We are thrilled to announce this new fund,” said Tara Vance, Executive Director of Norton County Community Foundation. “NCCF has awarded many grants to Almena organizations and charitable projects over the years, but this is the first fund that is solely dedicated to the success of that community. We encourage anyone who is working on a community project or charitable initiative in Almena to contact us about funding.”
A field of interest fund allows the donor(s) to make an impact in a specific area of interest. By establishing this type of fund, the donor identifies an area of charitable interest and NCCF works with an appointed committee to evaluate and award requests for funding. A minimum gift of $10,000 is required to establish a Field of Interest fund at NCCF.
